It’s very important to me that my work is affordable for everyone so I charge £200 a day as I think that’s about par with a tradesperson

So a studio day is 6 working hours split howsoever I choose each day

A workshop day is also 6 but with five contact working hours, being 10.-12.30 and 1.30-4 and a half hour each side for set and pack up

Cost for completed Art varies depending on the type of work; a sale of work already created, teaching, an event, a commission and also the complexity of the work involved and therefore the time it takes to complete.

The rate is standardised across the board as it’s about my time and current level of expertise:

Size, media, surface and subject matter don’t affect pricing really on this basis and so I hope the below is clear and understandable:

SALES

I produce varied work each week as part of my practise and in order to keep my skill set honed, so this is pretty much all for sale and affordable; Generally studio work is between £50 up to £500

EVENTS

For working at your day event generally £200 plus £50 for materials and travel covers it.

WORKSHOPS and TUTORING

I charge the same rate, so £100 for a half day and £200 for the day but there’s an additional £50 for a model and materials if needed

WEDDINGS

This work is on this daily rate too but there may be significant additional time, travel and accommodation costs which add to this.

It may also spill over into the commission work if I’m then completing a painting back at the studio as well:

I generally have half the week available with around 6 hours actual painting time during an 8 hour day

Wedding paintings can be completed within a 4 week timeframe to allow time to organise printing of thank you cards too if required.

COMMISSIONS

For bespoke it is costed around the time it takes me to create it, therefore I add it up into 6 hour chunks equalling a days work

I keep notes on all time spent working on all aspects of a piece readily available for clarity

And timelapse videos of work in process and this also shows you much of the time spent though there is research and studies as well.

There’s an initial chat and then if we proceed:

A consultation meeting of a hour or two, where we discuss and agree most aspects including budget and with a deposit at this point.

This covers the consultation, initial research time, study drawings and a main study, for your approval, before starting the final piece:

There’s also communication and ongoing consultation for your agreement/approval during the main work with imagery available.

Payment is staggered into 3, 4 or more; an upfront deposit, when I’m ready to start the main piece, on completion and then remittance on delivery; though it can be by monthly instalment. This can be put into a written agreement.

The above is subject to the type of commission and may not all be required if it’s a smaller or straightforward work but I put it here for the purposes of showing a commissioning process.
